Guwahati: The AIUDF, the main opposition party in Assam legislative assembly, on Tuesday threatened to go to court against senior BJP MLA Prashanta Phukan for describing party president Badruddin Ajmal as a “Bangladeshi”.
AIUDF general secretary and MLA Hafiz Bashir Ahmed Kasimi said in a statement here. “By calling Ajmal a Bangladeshi, Phukan has not only displayed ignorance and irresponsible behaviour but also insulted the constitution,” Kasimi said.
Phukan, the BJP MLA from Dibrugarh, had recently referred to a Ajmal as a “Bangladeshi” in a media interview.
AIUDF has recently refrained from making any statement on the BTAD violence following Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi’s appeal to all parties and organisations to remain clam and help in restoring peace in the affected areas, he said.
Kasimi said that the AIUDF’s stand on the issue of illegal migrants was that all illegal migrants who have entered the state after March 25,1971 will have to leave. (PTI)
