SHILLONG: The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) has decided to go ahead with the proposed 12 hour bandh in various states in the region including Meghalaya with the exception of Assam on September 6. The bandh would be effective from 5 am to 5 pm.

“We would go ahead with the proposed bandh as

scheduled,” NESO information and publicity secretary, Samuel Jyrwa said here on Monday.

NESO is holding this bandh to demand deportation of illegal immigrants from the region. Through the protest, the Organisation is also demanding the security of students and professionals from the northeast studying and working across the country.

While there will be 12-hour bandh in various North Eastern States including Meghalaya, NESO chairman Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya had earlier informed that the organisation will organise a ‘massive public rally’ in Guwahati on September 6 against unabated influx from Bangladesh.

The NESO leadership has invited government representatives from Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and the seven northeastern states as well as members of the northeast MPs forum to take part in the public rally.

Meanwhile, FKJGP general secretary W Rani has informed that the Federation will support the bandh organized by NESO. It may be mentioned that the KSU is a member of the NESO.
