SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Health and Family Welfare, Rowell Lyngdoh, has informed that the State Government is planning to enroll the first batch of MBBS students in the proposed Shillong Medical College from 2016 onwards.

“The proposal for setting up of this medical college is still in the bidding process,” Lyngdoh informed while replying to a query raised by UDP legislator Paul Lyngdoh in the Assembly on Friday.

When the UDP legislator sought to know whether the department has acquired any land to shift the Reid Chest (TB) Hospital from Jhalupara which would house the proposed medical college, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the Government has already acquired land at Mawdiangdiang which has been handed over by the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA).

Govt to finalise State Emblem soon

General Administration Department (GAD) Minister AL Hek has informed that the State Cabinet would soon be examining designs to finalise the State Emblem.

Replying to a zero hour notice moved by Opposition Leader Conrad K Sangma in the Assembly on Friday, Hek informed that the Government has felt the need to have its own emblem after seeing that many of the states in the country have adopted their own emblem.

He also informed that the department had conducted an open competition where artists from across the country participated to design the State emblem.

The department had shortlisted three designs for the State emblem created by three participants who were adjudged winners of the competition.
