IMPHAL:An Army Lance Naik and another civilian were wounded after Peoples Liberation Army (PLA), an armed wing of Revolutionary Peoples Front (RPF) triggered an IED near Tiddim Ground along Tiddim road under Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West district on Saturday.

The blast occurred at around 8:10 a.m. when the militants targeted a foot patrolling party of the 18 Sikh Regiment by triggering an IED planted under a fenced plant growing on the Tiddim road median.

In a statement issued by RPF’s publicity in charge Taohangsu Heiremcha the outfit pledged to continue its strikes on the Indian Army.

It may be mentioned that on September 5, two jawans of 28 Assam Rifles were hurt in another IED blast at Keisham Leikai, Keishampat in Imphal. The banned United National Liberation Front ( UNLF) had claimed responsibility for the attack.

Meanwhile, in view of the recent incident, involving planting and exploding of IEds by underground organisations causing innuries to public and security forces, and as part of preventive measures and to avoid any untoward incidents like bomb/IED blasts in the run up to the local body election in Imphal West district, the district police have sought the cooperation of the public and requested to help in preventing such incidents.

The district Superintendant of Police in a statement urged the public to act upon certain measures such as avoiding unnecessary crowding, allowing unattended vehicles to be parked in front of the house/shop etc. (NNN)
