SHILLONG: Union Power Minister, M Veerappa Moily, will visit Shillong on September 17 to lay the foundation stone of the Mawphu Hydel Project Stage II in East Khasi Hills on the NEEPCO premises.

The 85 MW power project to be executed by NEEPCO will help Meghalaya tide over the present power crisis to a certain extent.

Official sources said on Sunday that since the Minister will be in Shillong only for a day, he would not be able to visit the project site, but instead the foundation stone will be laid on the NEEPCO premises.

The Union Minister will also assess the progress of other hydel power projects being executed by NEEPCO.

Earlier, the State Government had signed a memorandum of understanding with NEEPCO to implement the project.
