SHILLONG: Toughening its stand against migrants without work permit, the State Government has warned that any establishment or contractor found employing such workmen would be booked as per the rules of Inter-State Migrant Workmen Act, 1979 (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service).

“All principal employers or establishments and contractors who employed five or more inter-state migrant workers are required to get the license from the concerned registering officers in their respective jurisdictions,” Labour Commissioner MN Nampui said in a statement issued here on Monday.

Stating that those who act against any provision of the Act shall be liable to penal action, Nampui added that in case of continued contravention, an additional penalty, which may extend to Rs 100 per day, would be imposed.
