NONGSTOIN: The FKJGP West Khasi Hills Unit led by its president Palwanbor Syiem on Tuesday inspected the Meghalaya State Warehousing Corporation under the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and the District Agricultural Research Laboratory at Nongstoin.

“The FCI warehouse was constructed in 1999 and since then it has been lying vacant. Wholesalers from West Khasi Hills have to go all the way to the FCI at Mawlai in Shillong to fetch their rations as the FCI in our own district is lying unused,” Palwanbor said.

He also made a fervent appeal to the State Government to utilize the FCI warehouse for the convenience of the wholesalers and the people at large.

Later, at the District Agricultural Research Laboratory, Palwanbor and his team were surprised to witness that the office complex had been occupied by the Office of the District Horticulture Officer (DHO) West Khasi Hills since 1997.

The KSU members also visited the new office building of the District Horticulture Officer which was said to be under construction and found that the office building had been completed long time back and was lying unutilised.

Palwanbor also appealed to the Government to shift the DHO’s office to the new building and to initiate the functioning of the District Agricultural Research Laboratory and also to post requisite staff in the office.
