Shillong: The row over the allotment of the UDP ticket for the Mawthadraishan constituency ceased to die down with a faction led by JC Diengngan seeking clarification from the top brass of the party on the allotment of ticket to HB Nongsiej.

Questioning the motive behind the decision, UDP secretary, Mawthadraishan Circle, A Warjri demanded thorough scrutiny on whether the party sub-committee, which had Deputy Chief Minister BM Lanong, GB Momin and Donbol Khymdeit among others as members, had ignored the decisions of the State Election Committee (SEC) while announcing the name of the candidate for Mawthadraishan.

“Is it possible that the decisions of the State Election Committee (SEC) were considered null and void by the UDP. If not, then on what grounds did the top brass (of the party) encroach into its jurisdiction? Could there be some hidden motives behind this?” Warjri questioned in a statement issued here recently. The faction also demanded the central executive committee to look into the matter and punish the members of sub-committee involved in announcing the candidate.

Meanwhile, the faction led by Diengngan has written to the president and secretary of the district to take stock of the matter while seeking clarification on the eligibility of candidature of HB Nongsiej asking whether the former has enrolled himself as a member at the district or central body.
