NONGSTOIN: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) Mawshynrut Circle on Wednesday issued a one-week deadline to the MeECL to improve electrical supply in the area which is currently in a pathetic state.

The MeECL has been asked to restore the SDO office at Sonapahar Sub-Division and also provide adequate staff to the office including an SDO.

Arkhelos Diengngan, president of the FKJGP Mawshynrut Circle, said life in Mawshynrut and its adjoining areas have been badly hit due to the shortage of power and the lack of power has given rise to a lot of crime in the area.

The FKJGP president recalled that between 2009 and 2010 they had met the Chairman of the MeECL at Shillong and had demanded posting of an SDO with requisite staff at the SDO’s office at Sonapahar Sub-Division. He also pointed out they had also met the MeECL CEO and had submitted a memorandum pleading for the same.

“However, the SDO’s office at Sonapahar remains dysfunctional to this day,” Arkhelos said.
