SHILLONG: Royal Wahingdoh kicked off their campaign in this year Federation Cup qualifying round on a disappointing note after they were thrashed by Kalighat FC 6-0 in Jamshedpur on Wednesday.
The Shillong team came into the match on a high note after lifting their third consecutive Shillong Premier League title.
However, RWFC started the match in a disastrous way as they conceded two goals in the first five minutes.
To add to their woes, the Shillong team also lost their main defender, Kareem Nurrain, in the first half after he was sent off.
Incidentally, it was Shillong Lajong’s former strikers James Gbilee and Christopher Chizoba who were responsible for Kalighat’s victory. Out of the six goals, Chizoba scored four while Gbilee chipped in with a brace.
Wahingdoh will take on Vasco SC in their next match and a defeat then will end their hopes of making it to this year’s Federation Cup.
