Shillong: The Meghalaya Boxing Association (MBA) on Wednesday felicitated two young lads who brought laurels to the state by winning bronze medals in the recent 28th Sub Junior Men National Boxing Championship in Maharashtra.

Sebastian Nongrum (13 years old) from the Ri Bhoi Boxing Club and Kushal Gurung (14 years) from BSC Boys Scouts club each came home with a bronze medal.

The two boys were felicitated here at Shillong Press Club on Wednesday by SPC president David Laitphlang in the presence of MBA president JF Kharshiing where they also received a cash award of Rs 2,000 each.

There were 13 boys from the state, with five, including Nongrum and Gurung, reaching the quarterfinals.

Kharshiing said that the MBA is in the process of requesting the government to provide land for a boxing academy in Shillong to help develop boxing in the state.

The MBA president also wants the immediate implementation of a sports policy in the state, which is still in its drafting stage.
