SHILLONG: Ten days after the Government notified constitution of two high-level committees to check influx, the KSU general secretary Auguster Jyrwa on Saturday said that the student body was yet to receive any letter from the Government on the proposed meeting of one of the committees.
On September 5 the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma announced in the Assembly regarding the formation of two high-level committees.
The formation of the committees was necessitated following the demand of the NGOs to implement ILP in the State.
The first committee, to be headed by the Deputy Chief Minister, in charge law, BM Lanong, has senior ministers, Chief Executive Members of the three district councils, representatives of traditional institutions, and NGOs as members. The second committee will be headed by the Chief Secretary WMS Pariat with senior government officials as members.
The first committee will deal with all aspects related to influx and the role of the second committee will be only to examine the laws and practices in force relating to tenancy and suggest specific measures to regulate the tenancy practices in the State.
When asked whether any notification has been sent by the government to the KSU to meet and discuss the issue of influx in the committee headed by Lanong, Jyrwa said till date there had been no information of any kind regarding the meeting.
The KSU leader said that on its part, the Union had asked all its units to be alert as far as influx is concerned and have also directed them to verify work permits and other supporting documents.
The Chief Secretary WMS Pariat, meanwhile, said the committee headed by him would meet soon to discuss the tenancy practices in the State.
“The Government is also in the process of nominating the members for the first committee on influx so that they can meet and discuss the issue “, the Chief Secretary added.
