Shillong: In a gruesome act, a disabled woman, who is a mother of two, was raped by one Bankhring Nongrim at her residence at Pynurkba, about 40 kms from Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills on September 15.
The woman is said to be deaf and dumb. The accused has been identified as a resident of Nongjrong, Smit and is a father of three children.
According to sources, the victim was alone at her residence when the accused, taking advantage of her disability, raped her and absconded.
Police have registered a case against the accused, but have not been able to trace him yet.
The CSWO (Agnes group), while condemning the act, has demanded immediate arrest of the accused and appealed against granting anticipatory bail to the accused.
In another case, Police on Sunday apprehended a 17-year-old youth and forwarded him to the Juvenile Justice Board for allegedly confining a minor girl (14) in a shop and attempting to rape her at Wahlyngia village in East Khasi Hills. The victim has been admitted at Ganesh Das Hospital for medical treatment.
