SHILLONG: The fight for the Congress ticket for Mawkynrew Constituency has taken a new turn with former Congress MDC from Jongksha constituency, Kansing Lynshiang, and his supporters coming out in the open to support prominent Government contractor Banteidor Lyngdoh for the party ticket.

Lynshiang made a formal announcement about their support to Lyngdoh (popularly known as Paidang) at a public meeting at Pashang near Jatah on Monday.

Speaking during the public meeting, Lyngdoh said he would try his best to work for the overall development and progress of the area if he gets the chance to contest the upcoming election on a Congress ticket.

“I have chosen this constituency since I wanted to work for the betterment of the people residing in the rural areas,” he added.

Earlier, it was reported that a tussle is on between the Congress party leadership and the party workers at the grassroots level over the choice of candidates for Mawkynrew and Mawryngkneng Assembly constituencies.

Sources informed that the party leadership wants the ticket to be allotted to Lyngdoh, whereas the party rank and file is in favour of Block Congress general secretary Drola Khongjoh.

It was earlier reported that the whole idea of putting Lyngdoh into the fray from Mawkynrew constituency originated from Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma.

Women party workers are supporting Khongjoh for the party ticket.
