New Delhi: A search-cum-selection committee is being constituted for appointment of a Director General who will head the proposed North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR) to be set up in Shillong.

The Ministry of Finance has already approved a proposal for creation of 31 posts including the post of Director General, sources informed on Monday.

The centre, which would be the nodal agency for the entire northeastern region, is being set up by the Central Government with an aim to promote selected technology in the region.

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had decided to set up this centre as a society under the Societies Registration ACT 1860 and it would function under the Department of Science & Technology from 2012-13.

Rs 292 crore has been earmarked for the establishment of this institute.
