SHILLONG: Union Minister of State for Rural Development Agatha Sangma has ruled out possibility of entering state politics.

There were reports in the past that Agatha would be pitted against Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma in Ampathi, his home constituency, in the upcoming Assembly elections.

There has also been a demand in this regard from a section of the party functionaries.

Denying this, the Union Minister said, “I am happy where I am today and my focus is to carry on the task of rural development which I am currently engaged in”.

After the formation of National People’s Party (NPP) speculations were rife on the possible move on the part of her father PA Sangma to return to Delhi.

He had resigned from Tura Assembly seat to contest Presidential poll in July.

If her father finally decides to take a plunge into national politics again by contesting the 2014 Lok Sabha polls from Tura , Agatha has to pave the way for him.

But Agatha says “it is too early to comment on 2014 polls.”

There are reports that Agatha will be dropped to accommodate NCP leader Tariq Anwar in the UPA ministry.

However, Agatha said she was not aware of it.

The Union Minister also declined to comment on whether she would associate herself with the NPP or campaign for it during the upcoming Assembly elections.
