CBI arrests five for killing Bodo youths

 Guwahati: The investigation team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested five persons in connection with killing of four Bodo youth in Kokrajhar in western Assam on July 20 last, the main incident that sparked the riot in Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) and adjoining areas.

The episode of violence involving Bodo tribe and Muslims left 100 persons dead and over four lakhs displaced from both the communities.

The CBI on Wednesday produced the arrested persons – Hasim Ali, Ajem Ali, Hasim Rahman, Imran Hussain and Kurban Ali – before the Special Judicial Court here.

The courted remanded the accused to four-days CBI custody. The CBI registered a case (No. RC 10(s)/12) against the accused persons, an official source said.

The CBI has been entrusted to investigate into five particular cases related to the spell of violence that shocked the entire nation.

Making a significant head way in the case, the agency has also recovered two mobile phones which belonged to the lynched youths which helped them in identifying the accused persons, they said. (With inputs from PTI)
