NONGPOH: Over hundreds of land owners have set September 30 deadline for the State Government to release the compensation for the land which the Airport Authority of India (AAI) had acquired for expansion of Umroi Airport.

The land owners from Umden Mission along with the leaders of Seng Samla Umroi Pyllun and the representative of Dorbar Shnong Umden took this decision in a meeting held at Umden Mission Community Hall, Umroi, on Tuesday.

It is learnt that the State government is supposed to pay Rs. 11.44 crore to the land owners as a compensation package.

“Land owners have been waiting for over a year for the money after they had handed over their land to the State Government for expansion of the Umroi Airport, but till date the Government had taken no initiative to release the package,” the president of Seng Samla G Pyrtuh said.

He informed that the land owners have demanded intervention of Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma for the early release of the compensation package.
