SHILLONG: The ten NGOs, who are spearheading the campaign against influx, have demanded inclusion of more representatives of the organizations in the high level committee (HLC) constituted by the State government.

At present the committee has only three representatives of the NGOs and now they demand inclusion of one representative from each NGO.

“We would like to see that all the NGOs get an equal opportunity to take part in discussion,” KSU president Daniel Khyriem said here on Wednesday.

Khyriem said they would like the Government to include the HNYF in the committee.

“As per the letter they received from the Government, the name of HNYF was not included,” KSU president said.

It may be mentioned that the HLC is being headed by Deputy Chief Minister Bindo M Lanong.

The terms of this high level committee are to review the situation of influx in the State and to suggest a multi-pronged approach to deal with the issue, to examine and outline the role of traditional institutions and their empowerment in dealing with the problem of influx, to recommend a comprehensive institutionalized mechanism and other matters considered necessary by the committee.

The NGOs will hold a meeting of all Rangbah Shnong within the Greater Shillong at the State Central Library on September 29 to discuss the steps taken by the NGOs so far in on the issue of influx.
