Aizawl: The Mizoram excise & narcotics squad seized pseudoephedrine tablets worth Rs 24,43,200 in separate incidents and booked three persons in this connection.
Police said a huge consigment tablets of pseudoephedrine-based Omcet were seized from Ch Chhunga Truck Terminal, on the western outskirts of the city, around 1500 hrs on Thursday. Two women Rothangpuii, 49, and Vanlalliani, 38, both residents of Aizawl were arrested and booked under NDPS Act 1985.
From the same location, the excise police also seized large package of pseudoephedrine-based Redipol tablets and arrested the alleged owner Steven Lianzova(34). The police later seized another consignment of pseudoephedrine tablets from the accused’s drugs store at Bawngkawn locality. Police sources said the drugs were smuggled from Delhi and Guwahati and were destined for Myanmar where they are in great demand.
The excise police have established that Mizoram has become a new route for smuggling of pseudoephedrine drugs into Myanmar. “The illegal pharmaceutical substances have found a new market in the Myanmar, Thailand and even China where they are illegally manufactured into party drugs,” they said. Sources said that tablets containing ephedrine and pseudoephedrine were being illegally transported from places like Delhi, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, among others, to Northeast and then smuggled to Myanmar where they were used to prepare party drugs.
