SHILLONG: With the rebellion by former NCP general secretary PA Sangma to form a new political party — National People’s Party (NPP) — after he lost the Presidential poll , there appears to be no obligation on the part of NCP to keep Tura MP, Agatha Sangma in the Union Cabinet.

Though Agatha had distanced herself from the action of her father and that of 12 NCP legislators including her two brothers to be part of NPP, the NCP leadership in Delhi is weighing all options ahead of the Cabinet reshuffle.

There are reports that senior NCP leader Tariq Anwar will replace Agatha in the Cabinet rejig.

When contacted in this regard, Agatha told The Shillong Times she was not aware of any plan on the part of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to drop her from the ministry. Instead she predicted a mid- term poll considering the fluid political situation at the Centre.

However, the NCP Central leadership is annoyed over the move of Meghalaya NCP legislators to join the newly-floated NPP.

The NCP National General Secretary DP Tripathi is yet to get any reply from the Meghalaya Assembly Secretariat regarding his complaint against the party legislators who had defected to NPP.
