Shillong: A Bangladesh national, who was caught at the porous international border in Meghalaya with fake Indian currency and passport, was on Wednesday released on bail by the Shillong Bench of the Gauhati High Court.
The Court of Justice Dr I Shah here allowed Rashel Khan alias Islam Saiful, a resident of Moulabi Bazar in Bangladesh, bail on a bail bond of Rs one lakh with surety of like amount.
Khan was also ordered to appear before the East Khasi Hills police chief twice a month and should not leave the jurisdiction of the court. Khan’s counsel A S Siddiqui pleaded that his client was in jail custody since May 13 without any formal chargesheet filed against him, and should be released on bail Khan was arrested by the BSF from Lyngkhat village on the Indo-Bangladesh border on May 12 with fake Indian currency and passport.
According to the BSF, Khan, who had served jail terms in the US from 1998-2003, was to fly to Saudi Arabia on May 25 from Mumbai. (PTI)
