SHILLONG: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has directed three companies, engaged in Jorabat-Shillong four-laning project, to renovate the dilapidated National Highway 40.
The General Manager (T) & Project Director of NHAI, PIU-Shillong Raj Chakraborty in a letter issued this directive to the three companies — M/s Jorabat Shillong Expressway Ltd, M/s IL&FS Transportation Network Ltd and M/s Ramky Infrasructure Ltd (JV).
The three companies are told to renovate the highway from Jorabat to Umiam.
The directive came after the youth wing of the United Democratic Party (UDP) in Ri Bhoi district submitted a petition to the NHAI.
In the petition, the UDP’s youth wing expressed deep concern over the dilapidated condition of the NH – 40 which is the backbone of development and gateway to other Northeastern states.
Acting on the complaint, the NHAI also directed the companies to submit a report on the renovation work to be carried out on the National Highway 40.
