Guwahati: The hardliner ULFA on Wednesday threatened of targeting ‘Indians’ (mainly Hindi-speaking people) in Assam in retaliation of Sivsagar superintendent of police Akhilesh Singh’s warning to the outfit after a recent blast in that town.
In an emailed statement to media here, the outfit claimed that it was not linked to the blast in Sivsagar town on Monday last, in which one person was killed and six injured.
It accused Mr Singh, with whom the outfit has been engaged in a verbal duel, of planting the bomb to divert attention for the alleged murder of a local rights activist Manoj Konwar, for which the ULFA blames the SP, and malign the image of ULFA. The outfit warned Singh against making any statement regarding the ULFA, citing his comments before the media after the blast that the ULFA will not only get a befitting reply (for the blast), but it will be wiped out.
‘Akhilesh Singh’s such inflammatory statements will surely have an effect on the Indians residing in the state and he will alone to blamed for it,’ the statement said. The outfit has a record of targeting Hindi-speaking people on multiple occasions and its latest statement has led to apprehensions of similar attacks being replayed. (UNI)
