Centre intervention sought over flood scenario

 New Delhi: Former Minister and M.L.A. Saydullah Nongrum on Friday urged the Centre to come to the rescue of thousands of people affected by the current flash floods in the plain areas of Garo Hills.

In a letter to the AICC General Secretary in charge of Meghalaya, Dr (retd) Dhaniram Shandil, Nongrum said that the sudden floods in neighbouring Assam has also severely affected people living in the low laying areas of plain areas of Garo Hills. In his letter the legislator who represents the area lamented that their plight has not been ameliorated, so far.

Nongrum said that the flood scenario is most devastating as the water level has submerged areas which were never breached till date by the floods indicating a dangerous trend. He urged Dr Shandil to take up the matter both in the party and Government level for the interest of the helpless people. The flood affected areas are Rajabala, Phulbari, Marsuti, Magrurmari, Gasbari adn Silkata.
