Mysore: Despite the largescale protest from the farmers, the Karnataka Government released water to Tamil Nadu as per the Supreme Court directions from both Krishna Raja Sagar Reservoir (KRS) and Kabini reservoirs late last midnight.
The water was released from eight crust ghats of the KRS.
There were protests from the JD-S workers led by Melkote MLA, C S Puttaraju and large number of farmers, who were at the spot and kept vigil near the entrance of the KRS against release of water from the dam. But they were detained by the police and later released.
Prohibition order was imposed around the KRS Dam and additional police forces were deployed at the KRS after the release of water.
Though the officials confirmed on the release of water, they refused to say about how much water was released.
At Kabini Dam in H D Kote taluk in Mysore district, the officials confirmed the release of water, but refused to provide details on the quantum of water released from the reservoir.
Prohibitory orders have been imposed near Kabinidam since last night to October 2 midnight as a precautionary measure. This was confirmed by Mysore Superintendent of Police R Dileep.
The Bangalore-Mysore Highway was disrupted with farmers staging protest and blocking roads at, Gejjalagere village in Mandya district. Police had a tough time in removing the protesting people.
Similar protest took place in other parts of the district also.
As a precautionary measure, the Mandya KSRTC has suspended the bus services. (UNI)
