SHILLONG: Only three medals were won by participants from Meghalaya in the 1st North East Zone Taekwondo Championship, which ended in the city on Saturday.

While bronze was won by Sehkhongam in the junior boys (over 51kg) category and Dil Kumari Thapa in the junior girls (under 42 kg) category, Bronson Vai Ranglong bagged the state’s only gold medal in the senior male (under 63kg) category.

There were a total of 70 participants from the state (54 male and 16 female), while Assam fielded 258 and Manipur 292.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, both Assam and Manipur dominated the medals tally, sharing all but three gold medals between them.
