SHILLONG: Union Minister of State for Water Resources Vincent H Pala claimed that Meghalaya stood first in terms of education in the country.
He was addressing the gathering during the 30th anniversary of St Jerome Higher Secondary School, here in the city on Friday.
Pala mentioned that Meghalaya was home to the best educational institutions of the country.
“With such educational institutes in the state the student’s fraternity should make proper use of such facilities,” Pala said adding that “Meghalaya as a state is concentrating on upgrading various educational systems and is opting for various skill related opportunities.”
He also urged upon the student’s to contribute in the field of development. “Students are the spirit and cause of development,” he said.
GAD Minister, AL Hek speaking on the occasion as the guest of honor stressed on the fact that education was a capital investment.
“As students there should be no sacrifice in terms of education. The school has grown by leaps and bound because of the efforts of the teachers and the founding members,” Hek added.
Others present in the function included parents, past pupils, teachers and MDC’s of the area.
