SHILLONG: The Indian Air Force celebrated its 80th anniversary at the Eastern Air Command, Upper Shillong on Monday.
Air Marshal S Varthaman Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Air Command (EAC) administered to all personnel the pledge of allegiance to the nation, and also paid rich tributes to the predecessors who have worked hard to make the Indian Air Force one of the mightiest in the world.
Various events were organised during the week-long celebration.
He emphasised on how the EAC is undergoing transformation with large scale up-gradation of its operational capability.
“It will make our Command among the strongest to take on any challenges posed on us,” he said.
With new weapons introduced in the command, Varthaman stated that it is still necessary to carefully maintain the old weapon systems that are still relevant.
He also presented commendation & appreciation to the air warriors and civilians posted at this headquarters and also extended his greetings to all the personnel and their families.
The Eastern Air Command is organising a mega festival ‘Air Fest’ on October 20 at ALG, Upper Shillong as part of commemoration of the Air Force Day.
Citizens of Shillong will have the opportunity to witness static display of aircraft, fly past, aero modeling and others, Defence PRO, Lt Col SS Phogat informed.
