In an embarrassment to

Members of the Seng Samla Mawlai Mawdatbaki along with the Rangbah Shnong at the launch of the bus service which came as a relief to the student community.

the State Government,

the Seng Samla Mawlai Mawdatbaki (SSMW) with the support of the Dorbar Shnong and Lamlynti Multipurpose Service Group (LMSG) has launched a bus to ferry school children from their locality who are studying in various schools in Jaiaw and Mawkhar areas.

Despite the launching of the SPTS and Maxi Cab by the Urban Affairs department, majority of school children from Mawlai locality had to walk the extra mile to reach their schools due to shortage of public transportation that would carry them to their destination.

With the government not taking matters seriously, the SSMW has come up with this bus after seeing the difficulties faced by the school children from Mawlai who are studying in various schools at Jaiaw and Mawkhar.

The bus was launched by Mawlai Mawdatbaki Rangbah Shnong BR Kharmujai in the presence of SSMW secretary Wallamkupar Kharpran and its president Franky Massar here on Monday.

Immediately after it was formally launched, the bus started to ferry school children from Mawlai towards Motphran on the first day itself.

The bus, proposed to ply on a daily basis would be specifically picking up school children from various localities of Mawlai who are studying in various schools at Jaiaw and Mawkhar.

The normal routes which the bus would be plying are Mawlai Mawdatbaki Nongmali-III FCI, passing through IGP taxi, Madan Heh and then proceeding towards Jaiaw Lumpyllon (Jingthang Briew), St Joseph and Motphran.

The fact remains that the coming of this bus is a blessing in disguise for many of the school children who have to walk many kilometers to reach their school

Earlier, school children would be left standing on the roadside for hours waiting for auto rickshaws and taxis.

It was also observed that parents with their young ones would also remain stranded in the streets waiting for the vehicle to reach schools owing to poor modes of transportation.

To add to woes is the traffic jam that dominates the morning street arena. Those who can afford the luxury of having private vehicles or even reserved cabs for that matter reach on time whereas many are left stranded trying their luck every once in a while to nick a ride.

The Government failed to make the necessary arrangement despite parents making repeated appeals to the State Government to provide transportation for their children to go to their schools.

While speaking during the launching of this bus, Mawlai Mawdatbaki Rangbah Shnong hoped that the problems faced by the school children to get a vehicle to reach their schools would see a permanent solution with the launching of this bus.

Meanwhile, Mawlai Mawdatbaki Dorbar Shnong secretary said that this is a small initiative taken up by the Seng Samla for the interest of the school children.

“I only hope that this noble initiative taken by the Seng Samla would be a huge success,” he said.

The SSMW have conveyed their gratitude to the Dorbar Shnong and LMSG for their support in helping the Seng Samla launch this bus.

The SSMW urged upon the school children to avail the bus facility that has been launched for the students.

It may be mentioned that The Shillong Times had earlier reported on this problem faced by the school children of Mawlai.
