inaugurate the 43rd International Film Festival India (IFFI) in Goa next month. The 11-day festival kicks start on November 20 in Panaji, Goa, and will have a special showcase on the 100 years of cinema

“In its latest iteration, the festival promises to bring together Indian cinematic geniuses, International cinema, interaction with cinema luminaries and an extension of the magic of cinema,” said festival director Shankar Mohan.

The 43rd edition will showcase acclaimed movies from various sections like International Competition, Cinema of the World, Foreign Retrospectives, Tributes, Country Focus, Indian Panorama, Indian Retrospectives & Tributes, Animation & 3D cinema and Film Bazaar.

The event will also present jury awards which recognizes the best creativity in the cinematic sphere and a special ‘Centenary Award’ comprising a Silver Peacock, Certificate and a cash prize of Rs 10,00,000.

The recipients of the awards will be announced on the closing ceremony, which will be attended by filmmaker Mira Nair, Ashok Amritraj, Tabu, Kailash Kher and Saroj Khan.

Also in the news, a mobile diabetes unit has been launched in the name of megastar Amitabh Bachchan, which will conduct free diabetes tests.

It was launched by the living legend himself on his 70th birthday on Thursday.

“Inaugurated ‘Amitabh’ the mobile diabetes unit from Silver Star, the noble charitable organisation that I patronise, in Mumbai…,” Big B tweeted.

“Free diabetes tests conducted by these mobile units… proud to be associated with it in patron, and to contribute for its extension,” he further posted.

Later in the day, he also inaugurated an exhibition of his 70 paintings.
