NONGSTOIN: Residents of Langpih are yet again gripped by a fear psychosis following reports of the area missing from the State’s latest map.

Soon after the matter came to light on Thursday following an RTI filed by the CSWO (Agnes), there was unrest among the villagers who were under the impression that their land has been sold off to Assam. The residents also dreaded that they would be asked to evacuate the area.

Meanwhile, speaking to The Shillong Times, Nongstoin MLA Hopingstone Lyngdoh said that he was ignorant about the map while asserting that Langpih belonged to Meghalaya under the provisions provided in the Para 20 of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.

Lyngdoh said that he had already led an agitation during the demand for an autonomous council. “If the Government did not clarify the rumour, I would not hesitate to lead the people again,” he added.

Meanwhile, taking strong cognizance of the report on Langpih’s exclusion from the State map, the Hima Raid Mynsaw decided to convene a meeting at Langpih on October 19 to discuss the issue.

The Sirdar of Hima Raid Mynsaw Langpih, Hindro Samakha requested all representatives, journalists and intellectuals to come to their aid during the meeting.

“The people of Langpih require the intervention of the intellectuals to solve this vexed issue,” he said.
