Inner Line Permit conference held in Manipur

IMPHAL: Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System in Manipur has pledged to start verifying non-locals in the state if the government fails to implement the Inner Line Permit in Manipur by November 18.

The Committee also said it would start launching non-co-operation after November 18 against the non-locals in the state.

These were stated in a one-day long political conference on “Inner Line Permit System in Manipur” organised by the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System was held on Friday at Youth Hostel, Khuman Lampak in Imphal.

The conference was attended by Sapamcha Jadumani, Convenor of Joint Committee on ILP System and Khaidem Mani, Advocate, Guwahati High Court as the president and moderator of the function respectively.

Representatives of different political parties of the state except from the Congress party were also presented at the political deliberation.

Speaking on the occasion, Sapamcha Jadumani reiterated the committee’s stand of setting November 18 as the deadline for implementing Inner Line Permit System in the state while adding that the committee may be compelled to verify non-Manipuris in case the government fails to implement the system before the said deadline.

He stated that non-cooperative movement will be launched against the non-locals and their various establishments and residential places will also be monitored saying that such steps have become necessary in order to protect the indigenous people of the state.

Giving importance on the need to implement the system in the state, Salam Ibol, a representative of BJP said sustenance of concerted efforts while pressing the demand for implementation the ILP System in the state is very much needed. He further contended that various political parties across the country have supported the movement.

During the session, the committee adopted four resolutions stating that the committee vehemently opposed the statement made by the Union Home Minister regarding the issue; to pressurize higher authories by the representatives of various political parties of the state to implement the ILP System; the Joint Committee along with political leaders of the state to urge the central government and to organise a massive rally before November 18.

Meanwhile, Personnel of Narcotic cell, Imphal East Saturday seized 4 kg of opium from the possession of a woman drug peddler at Senapati district at about 4:30 pm on Saturday.

The opium is valued at Rs 3 lakh in the local market but about 10 lakh in international market. (NNN)
