Nongstoin: Senior Congress leader Boldness L Nongum is the official nominee of the Mawthadraishan Block Congress Committee (MBCC) for the party ticket to contest the upcoming State election from the constituency.
Nongum’s selection was the outcome of an election of the primary unit conducted by the West Khasi Hills District Congress Committee (WKHDCC) at Kynshi on Tuesday.
Out of the 44 votes cast during the election, Nongum secured 25 votes while the other ticket aspirant, Irin Lyngdoh, secured 14 votes. The remaining four votes were declared invalid, inside sources informed.
The DCC election observer, however, did not made any announcement about the outcome of the election because of the fear that there might a clash between the supporters of the two ticket aspirants.
The MBCC has decided to forward the names of both Nongum and Lyngdoh, despite that fact that Nongum had ‘convincingly won’ the primary unit election.
Interestingly, Lyngdoh was not present at the election of the primary unit.
Sources revealed that the former Minister and sitting MDC distanced herself from the election since she had suspected gross manipulation in the election.
Sources informed that the election was conducted in a manner that would ensure Nongum’s victory.
“Majority of the members who have been enrolled to vote in the election are Nongum supporters,” the sources further alleged.
It may be noted that Nongum is the president of the DCC, West Khasi Hills.
