SHILLONG: Dr Sunil Borua, a noted cricket pitch curator, passed away at his Guwahati residence on Monday following a brief illness at the age of 72.

Borua was a guiding force in organising and promoting cricket in Shillong, and through his efforts, Metropolitan Sporting Club, Bishnupur – the first cricket club in the city – was formed. Borua was responsible for preparing several pitches in Guwahati and Shillong as curator, arguably one of the first from the region to do so. His love for the game also translated into the publishing of two books on cricket.

His sudden demise was mourned by Assam Club, Shillong, at a condolence meeting on Monday evening. With his passing, the region has lost a real cricketer in the “game of glorious uncertainty”.
