SHILLONG: In an impressive performance, more than fifty per cent of the women recruits managed to successfully complete their training as constable recruit of the 37th batch of the Meghalaya Police.
Out of the 132 recruit constables, fifty three women constables and 73 males came out successful.
An impressive Attestation Parade was held at the 1ST Battalion Meghalaya Police, Mawiong to welcome the new entrants to the State Police.
The performance by the women recruits impressed Director General of Police, N Ramachandran, who was full of praises for them and termed it as a great day for the State Police.
Ramachandran, while welcoming the recruits into the State Police family, said that their job carries a lot of responsibility.
“This profession gives you an opportunity to serve the people,” he told the gathering.
According to the DGP, police work is a challenging job and it also involves laying down of lives for the country,” he said while citing examples of State police personnel who have died in Garo Hills while serving the country.
The police chief also urged the recruit constable to learn, train and practice continuously for further promoting their ranks in the State Police.
He handed over trophies to the recruits who excelled in different disciple including best musketry, best outdoor and exemplary conduct besides reviewing the parade.
Earlier, commandant of the 1ST Battalion, Meghalaya Police, AR Mawthoh, informed that the nine-month course was designed in such a way that the recruits besides learning normal police practices would understand and appreciate the sentiments of people.
Senior State police officials, Battalion officials, family, friends and relatives of the recruits were also present during the Attestation Parade.
