JOWAI: A 27-year-old youth, identified as Hari Thapa, a resident of Jhalupara, Shillong, was shot dead allegedly by a group of unknown miscreants armed with sophisticated weapons at a coal mine at Kwe near Jarain village under Khliehriat PS in East Jaintia hills district late Saturday evening.

Sources said a group of more than 15 masked miscreants came to the labour camp at around 9 pm on Saturday and attacked many of the labourers with an intention to loot them.

“The miscreants later shot dead one Hari Thapa with a pistol,” the sources said.

“Thapa was very new to the place as he had just come from Shillong in search of work in the coal mine,” the source said.

Khliehriat Police have shifted the body to the Khliehriat CHC for post-mortem examination.
