TURA: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU) recently held a meeting in Baghmara, South Garo Hills to discuss the issue of influx in the Meghalaya and its threat to the indigenous people of the State.

At the meeting it was resolved that, Inner Line Permit (ILP) should be adopted by the State, especially in the plain belts of Garo Hills which will help to keep influx in check and will also be of assistance in detecting the same.

The GSU said that they will be demanding the Government to introduce ILP in the State because there are illegal migrants and dual voters present in the plain belts of Garo Hills and it is high time the State Government adopted new ideas to resolve the issue.

GSU Western Zone also said that there are many

Bangladeshis who have illegally entered into Garo Hills and living in villages like Bansale, Teldala, Chondonpara, Takunbari, Monabari, Jolgao, Kakripara, Kalaichar, Lokaichar, Mahendraganj, Purakhasia, Dalu, Gandhipara, Tepulpara, Pepulbari, Haldiaganj, Singimari, Lalmati, Rajabala, Baitbari, Pulbari, Chibinang, Tikrikilla, Dupkuripara etc, which all fall under the Ampati, South West Garo Hills District.
