Half marathon to be held in city

SHILLONG: As part of the Shillong Autumn Festival, the Meghalaya Tourism Development Forum and the District Administration have invited participants for the first Shillong Half Marathon, to be held on October 27. Other events will include cycling, a youth run and walkathon.

The event will be flagged off from Madan Iewrynghep (Fire Brigade ground) at 7am. Registration forms and can be collected from Madan Iewrynghep on October 25 and 26 between 10:00am and 4:00pm.  

 Local marathon runner Bining Star Lyngkhoi, who is the event ambassador, will take part in the half marathon, while Chief Minister Mukul Sangma will take part in the Green Walkathon to celebrate the ongoing “Youth for Green” campaign.

Surprisingly, while the winner of the men’s half marathon will receive Rs20,000, the winner of the women’s event will only receive Rs15,000. There is also a difference in the second-placed purse (Rs15,000 for men and Rs12,500 for women). Third-placed finishers will receive Rs10,000.

In addition, there will beprizes for runners in the boys and girls events as well as in the cycling events.
