Nagaland AIDS Society campaign for awareness

Kohima: Noted pop star of North East, youth icon and the face of Mioram Mami Varte will be Celebrity Guest of the Grand Finale of the Rock Plus convened by the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) under their Multi Media Campaign (MMC), to be held on November 3 at the Super Market of Dimapur town.

Addressing a press conference at Kohima this evening NSACS Projects Director Dr Nandira Chankija told newsmen that this is for the first time in the country, where local media is joining hands with the NSACS to create awareness for the HIV/AIDS.

The Rock Plus was able to reach 89 per cent of the people within the age group of 15 to 45 to create awareness so far through the Multi Media Campaign, including the Rock Plus, which has already covered seven districts of Nagaland. She also disclosed that one of the media partner Naga Blog, which has organizing a Slogan Contest on HIV/AIDS, got overwhelming respond where over 700 participants, besides the North East Region and mainland, even from other parts of the world, countries like UK and Australia.

Dr Chankija also claimed that due to Multi Media Campaign of the NSACS for the awareness on HIV/AIDS, the prevalence rate of AIDS has gradually coming down. She also thanked the Media, NGOs and church leaders, who are helping the NSACS to this onus of awareness and bring the dreaded disease to zero prevalence rate.

She also disclosed that the main concern for the NSACS is that the Dimapur district, which is still at the top of the list, followed by Tuensang and Kohima. (UNI)
