Concern over boulder extraction along Umiam river

NONGPOH: Concerns have risen over the destruction of natural beauty of the Umiam river due to the extraction of boulders by the YFC company involved in handling the ongoing construction of Four Laning in Ri Bhoi District from the quarry of one Henson Lyngdoh at Mawiong.

People from over a hundred villages in Umroi use this river water for their daily purposes and such activities have rendered the water unusable. KSU NKHD executive member Twinkle Buhphang and Umiam Dorbar Shnong Asst. secretary Adelbert Laloo informed that the Student Body and the Dorbar Shnong have expressed their concern over the extraction of boulders without preventive measures. The extraction of boulders by YFC Company has been stopped by the student body till Lyngdoh assures to take preventive measures to protect the river.
