SHILLONG: Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope is yet to receive any letter from the police seeking his permission to interrogate legislator Founder S Cajee in connection with the alleged assault of a photojournalist W Lytan in March last.

The Police on Friday said that they had sought the permission from the Speaker to record Cajee’s statement on the incident.

Official sources on Saturday said that it is not mandatory that the police should seek the permission of the Speaker to quiz the legislator or to take a statement from him as the law is very clear in this regard.

The Speaker, however, said that once he receives the letter, the matter would be examined.
