SHILLONG: The high-level committee on influx is likely to submit its recommendations to the State Government within the stipulated timeframe of two months.

Indicating this, Deputy Chief Minister Bindo Mathew Lanong, who heads the committee, said, “I do not think the committee would require to seek any extension since it is not a new issue. We have been discussing influx issue for the past several years.”

Lanong informed that the committee would hold its third meeting on October 30.

“Unless there is any new suggestion or idea, we would start the compilation of the recommendations immediately,” he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister said that the majority of the members especially the NGOs were in favour for implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) to tackle the problem of influx.

“On the part of the committee, we would submit our recommendations. It is for the State Government to decide on the mechanism which needs to be adopted for tackling this burning issue,” Lanong said.

Earlier, accepting the demand of several NGOs for introduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the State, the second meeting of high level committee on influx had unanimously decided to propose to the government for an introduction of ILP to counter influx, besides demanding more teeth to the Inter-state Workmen Act.
