SHILLONG: Police have arrested six persons in connection with the murder of one Losber Pyngrope (45) at Thangbnai village near Mawlyngngot in East Khasi Hills on Monday.

The arrested persons — Phrangsngi Pyngrope (23), Mong Pyngrope (23), Rojak Pyngrope (22), Philis Pyngrope (26), Speak Pyngrope (45) and Saian Kshiar (75) –brutally murdered their relative Pyngrope following a dispute over a plot of land. Police found the body in the house of one of the accused Saian Kshiar, sources said adding that the accused dragged Pyngrope to the house of Kshiar and subsequently murdered him there. Police recovered a ‘dao’ from the room where the body was found lying.

The problem started when Losber Pyngrope had inherited a plot of land belonging to the clan after the demise of his mother. He had inherited the land since he did not have any sister, sources said. The land dispute went to the court. “After the court ruled in favour of the deceased, the relatives got frustrated which led to this murder,” sources said. It may be mentioned that a police team had to walk for more than three hours to reach the village since it is yet to have a motorable road. The village is connected only with a rope way.
