SHILLONG: To tackle any insurgent interference in the upcoming Assembly elections, the Border Security Force (BSF) has beefed up security along the Indo-Bangla border.

A BSF official on Tuesday said with elections approaching in the State, the BSF has strengthened its border domination besides strengthening its intelligence network.

Up-scaling its dominance in the border areas, the BSF this month alone has apprehended 62 illegal immigrants and three touts from the Indo-Bangla border.

To ensure peaceful elections, the BSF is also strengthening its manpower with as many as nine BSF battalions manning the border, the BSF official said, adding the number may further go up as the elections approaches.

The BSF is conducting joint operations with the State Police, the official informed.

“We are working with the border population and patrolling with village defense parties,” the official added.

The HNLC is yet to make its stand clear on the election while the GNLA has claimed that it would support the Congress party in the upcoming election.

The Breakaway faction of Achik National Volunteer Council (ANVC-B) is planning to create mass awareness among people on election of the right candidates while the ANVC has so far remained neutral.
