SHILLONG: Social Welfare Minister JA Lyngdoh on Wednesday inaugurated the two-day health mela at Nongspung PHC in the presence of District Medical & Health Officer, East Khasi Hills, Dr LL Sawian besides other senior doctors and village elders of the area.
Speaking at the event, Lyngdoh urged the women of Nongspung and its adjoining areas to opt for delivering their children at the PHC in Nongspung itself, and asked the expectant mothers to go to the PHCs and CHCs for regular checkups before delivery.
Lyngdoh also appealed to the expectant mothers to opt for institutional delivery of their babies as opposed to delivery under the supervision of tradition handlers.
The highlights of the programme included song by the students of Mary Fatima School, Nongspung, free medical and health check up, baby show competition, quiz competition, exhibition & IEC campaign and role play.
