HNLC hit by manpower, fund crisis: BSF

 SHILLONG: Brushing aside claims by the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) that it was regrouping the Border Security Force (BSF) on Sunday said the outfit has an effective strength of only thirty to forty cadres.

According to a BSF official, the outfit is presently suffering from deficiency of manpower and funds to sustain itself.

“They only have a handful of armed cadres and there is a growing dejection and mistrust among them,” the BSF official claimed.

There are also no reports of cross border movement of HNLC cadres, the BSF official said, adding that the Bangladesh border force were maintaining strict vigil to keep a tab on cross border activities by the cadres.

The banned outfit, earlier, had claimed on a social networking site that it is back with renewed strength. The claim was followed by a firing at Lumdiengjri Police Station and recovery of around 100 HNLC meant for public distribution on the occasion of the outfit’s 25th jubilee celebration.

Recently, a surrendered HNLC cadre, Jingkyrmen Wanniang had revealed that the outfit had recruited 30 new cadres and it was regrouping.
