KSU demands action on CBI findings

 SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has asked the government to punish those who are involved in the alledged manipulation of recruitment of teachers.

In a statement issued here on Monday after an emergency meeting, KSU president Daniel Khyriem and the student union expressed their unhappiness over the recent revelation with regard to the CBI reports about the tampering of the original score sheet of the successful candidates who applied for the posts of Assistant Teachers in Lower Primary Schools in the state by the high officials of the Education department of the Government.

“The Sordid Episode have left many of our unemployed youths in a state of shock and disbelief leading to a loss of trust in a system which encourages and give undue advantage to candidates with political recommendation and support”, Daniel Khriem said.

According to the KSU, the Government has to take moral responsibility for the problem arising from the constant interference of the political masters to satisfy their interests and while the sentiments of the deserving candidates and youths of the state.

The students body had also suggested that the government should bring in more transparency in the entire government establishment which is responsible for recruitment like the MPSC, DSC and others.

The State Government also has to ensure that the deserving candidates who were successful on their own merits are not victimised during the course of its ongoing inquiry or the CBI report,” the KSU statement added.

The students body also said that the Government has to set right the current state of affairs prevailing from this scandal of the education department by punishing all the guilty officials who condone and encourage such unfair and resort to such condemnable practices.

Meanwhile, The Teaching bodies of the state are so far silent on the recent CBI findings, which revealed irregularities in the appointment of assistant teachers in LP schools.

While the different political parties and other NGOs have expressed their concern over the findings, different teachers association are still mum on the entire matter.

The teachers body carried out protests and hold public rallies to issue deadlines earlier regarding their salary and their other related issues.

On many occasions, several teachers’ associations have hit-out at the State Government besides holding rallies asking the Government to fulfill their pending demands especially for the increase in salaries and other allowances.
