SHILLONG: Sounding bugle for 2013 electoral battle in the State Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TC) has formed an adhoc election committee.
Former Railway Minister and a senior party leader Mukul Roy on Thursday met several stakeholders of the party to discuss the TC’s plan to contest the State Assembly elections due in 2013.
The decision to form an Adhoc Election Committee with an aim to strengthen the party’s prospects in the 2013 Assembly elections was taken in the meeting.
Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, Roy said his party was not a new thing in the state as political stalwart Purno Sangma had contested the 2004 Parliamentary election on Trinamool ticket.
He said several veteran politicians including some sitting MLAs and former MPs have approached the party to contest the upcoming elections from the party.
The TC presently has seven MLAs in Manipur, one in Assam and six in Aruncahal Pradesh.
Referring to Manmohan Singh-led government at the Centre, he claimed that the UPA government became a minority after his party pulled out of it over the controversial issue of foreign direct investment (FDI).
“FDI will ruin the country,” he added.
