Agartala: The ruling CPI(M) in Tripura refuted allegations of opposition Congress that Chief Minister Manik Sarkar had made derogatory remarks against the Prime Minister or Congress party in a public meeting held here on November 4.
“The allegation brought by the president of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee, Sudip Roy Burman, that the chief minister made derogatory remarks against PM Manmohan Singh or the Congress party is completely baseless,” a press statement issued by the CPI(M) said on Thursday.
“The UPA government, led by Singh at the Centre, had earned the most unsavoury reputation in the post-Independent era for corruption and scam and the chief minister only exposed the charges of corruptions and the anti-people policies of the government before the people which angered the opposition Congress,” the statement claimed.
It was alleged that the confessional statements made by the surrendered insurgents of the state recently to the police and court proved that the opposition Congress in Tripura had nexus with the underground insurgent outfits. Burman had threatened to launch a state-wide movement unless Sarkar withdraws his remarks made against the PM within three days. (PTI)
